Welcome to Motor City Blogs!

Who am I?

My name is Matt Watson. Who's that? Well, I've been a writer for the past six years, and a blogger for the past one. In between, I've also dabbled in web design and programming -- which brings us to what you're looking at right now.

Why Motor City Blogs?

My reasons behind creating Motor City Blogs were twofold. First and foremost, I simply wanted to see if it could be done. Or more specifically, I wanted to see if it could be done by me. Everything I've ever learned about building web sites I taught myself -- usually by getting an idea or seeing something someone else did and figuring out a way to do it myself.

Secondly, I wanted to create some kind of jumping off point for Metro Detroit blogs. Sure, one of the most compelling features of the internet is the fact that it has a global reach, but there's also something to said for connecting with local voices.

In the year since I've launched Detroit Bad Boys, a blog about the Detroit Pistons, I've become familiar with numerous other local blogs dedicated to the Detroit sports scene. Many of these blogs have been around for much longer than my own, but I simply never found them until I began blogging myself.

All of us read the Free Press and the News, and we all listen to the same radio stations -- but not everyone has discovered some of the area's top independent commentary. With that in mind, I wanted to create something that could help Detroit sports fans discover some of the top blogs covering Metro Detroit area sports.

For a lot of fans, these blogs won't need any introduction; I know several of them already get thousands of visitors each day. But for some fans -- especially those new to the whole "blogging" scene -- I hope that this site might become something of a daily stop to catch up on the entire Detroit sports scene -- or at the very least point you in the direction of new blog that becomes one of your daily stops.

What's next?

I'd like to point out that Motor City Blogs is still a work in progress -- there are a lot of bugs I need to work out and things I need to tweak, not the least of which include adding a few more sites on the front page. I also plan on adding pictures for some of the other sports, and in time I'd like to tweak some of the site's code for efficiency.

Instead of waiting until I was 100% happy, I decided to simply open it up to the public and see if anyone has any feedback. If you have any questions, suggestions or comments of any nature, please drop me a line: matt at motorcityblogs.com

Sincerely,
Matt Watson

[9/6/06 Update: I've made a handful of changes, most notably adding multiple feeds for each sport. Sometime soon I'll set up an actual blog to document changes and announcements to the site. Until then, I'll list the big things here.]
